Moody Blue.
Piggy explores the sadness of being faceless and nameless in a big city. Brain looks at that dark and brooding self that is in all of us.

Continuing with Lomography as the media, we present this latest diptych, Daily Grind.
A road side peddler getting her trinkets ready of sale and refusing to look up comprises Piggy’s daily grind. While Brain sees the chaos, madness and running around that has so much a part of our daily grind.

So this is why we’ve been away from this here neck ‘o the woods. We’ve set aside our wee pencils and colours and picked up our wee cameras for a bit. We’ve been frolicking around in the wonderful world of Lomography where cheap optics and grainy films are actually coveted, not frowned upon!
This particular diptych, therefore, is not our usual two-sketches-side-by-side. Instead we’ve got two-photographs-side-by-side! We call this one Lomo Lovers.

Fantasy Forest
The first truly collaborative artwork on this blog, Fantasy Forest is the result of two sleepy weekends and a friend’s impending housewarming party for which we didn’t have a gift.
We wanted to create a happy picture that would bring cheer to the dreariest of living room walls, and with the bright greens and yellows and the multi-colour beasts, we think we’ve hit the spot.
Don’t mind the sleepy looking animals- it was a sleepy weekend, remember? ;-)

Red is a powerful colour, with a strong symbolism in just about every culture there is. It stands for power, passion, fertility, danger, love, lust, anger and whole host of other, equally strong emotions. Today’s diptych is inspired by the colour red.
Piggy’s head is currently filled with all things Alice and for The Brain, it seems unlikely he’ll ever break away from the image of the powerful and passionate red caped superheroes of his childhood.

After a brief hiatus, we’re back!

This diptych is about trees. Sadly, each day they dwindle. City dwellers, we’ve become accustomed to a landscape without flora. Childhod memories of gnarling, old oaks, mangoes and elms abound. Not anymore.

Today’s diptych is about a song. A specific song. A song about two muskrats in love. A song that was once voted the worst popular song ever by readers at CNN. It’s a song called Muskrat Love, by a band called America.
And it’s amazing how the same set of words, or the same tune can set off such different reactions in different people.
Piggy dreams up a moonlit night off a street-side cafe, Sam serenading Suzy over chunks of cheese. The first, and enduring image that sprang into her mind fully formed when she first heard the song. Sweet.
The Brain sees it as a brilliantly satirical anthropomorphisation of creatures that, basically, rut. Love has many forms, neh?

This diptych is about coffee. For Piggy, the association is indelible- coffee equals The Brain. Specifically, all those little moments stolen from a busy schedule over the last year to spend time with each other, and all the memories that come attached to that. For The Brain, who’s been addicted to coffee for far longer, it’s always represented his daily dose of ‘me time’- a chance to be with himself and look inward.
Piggy calls hers-

Why the Coffee Tastes Bitter in Kaapi-Land

And The Brain calls his-

Kaapi Nirvana

This diptych is about restlessness. For some it feels like being whisked off your feet by a bundle of energy that’s in you. For others restlessness could simply be the unendurable wait before the dice roll.

Piggy and The Brain is a series of diptychs. Each diptych is a single theme interpreted by two artists- Piggy and The Brain. Piggy is always on the left and The Brain is always on the right. Our styles, and our interpretations are always a study in contrasts. Enjoy!
_____
This diptych is about our favourite books. Piggy remembers the colouring books of her childhood, and the many happy hours spent mucking about with paint. The Brain pays a sloppy, yet humble, homage to The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy- arguably the best book ever written.

This diptych is about cameras and photography because that’s what’s been on our mind all week. Piggy explores the theme via candid photography and the Lomo culture. The Brain decides to focus on how social networking sites have become a great source of shared narratives between people and how others perceive ‘our moments’ is becoming, increasingly, more important than how ‘our moment’ actually was.
